Girona Temps de Flors 2014

Girona is one of the most beautiful main cities in Catalonia! It’s located up in the north, on the way to France and 45 minutes away from the Mediterranean. It has delightful streets to wander, pretty little shops to sneak in, old jewish and arabian heritage… I’m in love with it!

These past two weeks, Girona dressed up for one of the most beautiful and scentful events one can imagine: Girona Temps de Flors 2014 – Time for Flours in Girona; A colorful event where flowers are the main character of the scene and where all the city shares with the people who wants to visit, its most hidden corners, its most splendid monuments, museums, private house patios… It’s a gift for you eyes, trust me!

This might be your best chance to know the city, to taste its rich gastronomy,to feel spring on the streets and to shoot photos like a maniac! I’ve been there 2 days and I shoot more than 300 each day! I would be ruined if I had to develop the pictures like in the old days ;D.

The 12th century saw a flourishing of the Jewish community of Girona, with one of the most important Kabbalistic schools in Europe. The Rabbi of Girona, Moshe ben Nahman Gerondi (better known as Nahmanides or Ramban) was appointed Great Rabbi of Catalonia. The history of the Jewish community of Girona ended in 1492, when the Catholic Kings expelled all the Jews from Catalonia. Today, the Jewish ghetto or Call is one of the best preserved in Europe and is a major tourist attraction. On the north side of the old city is the Montjuïc (or hill of the Jews in medieval Catalan), where an important religious cemetery was located. Source: Wikipedia

The old city wall surrounds the old part and gives you a privileged view all over Girona. Just spectacular!

My restaurant recommendation would be: El Celler de Can Roca, 2nd best of the world this year according to Restaurant Magazine. But if you want a plain, normal but also delicious meal… any restaurant in the city will give you high quality offers with flowers in their menu… of course!
